Max Power Mining has signed a memorandum of understanding with the City of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to explore development opportunities tied to the company’s natural hydrogen exploration activities in the region.
The Regina-based company said the agreement will focus on regional infrastructure, industrial development, policy initiatives and broader economic opportunities linked to the emerging natural hydrogen sector. Central to the partnership is Lawson, Max Power’s flagship natural hydrogen discovery located approximately 80 kilometers north of Moose Jaw, which the company describes as Canada’s first subsurface natural hydrogen system.
Chief Executive Ran Narayanasamy said the agreement represents an important step toward advancing the commercialization of natural hydrogen while supporting economic growth across the region. “As Max Power advances its natural hydrogen project toward commercial validation, we see a meaningful opportunity to support innovation, attract investment, create long-term economic value and help position this region at the forefront of a new category of domestically sourced clean energy,” he said.
Moose Jaw Mayor James Murdoch said the project aligns with the city’s strategic focus on economic development and partnerships. He added that the Lawson discovery presents potentially significant opportunities for local industry, research collaboration and workforce training initiatives. “This agreement allows us to explore the potential of Natural Hydrogen to support local industries, research and training partnerships, and longer-term economic opportunities,” Murdoch said.
The agreement comes as interest in naturally occurring hydrogen resources grows globally amid efforts to expand low-emission energy alternatives and strengthen domestic energy security. Max Power said it continues to pursue federal funding support as it advances exploration and development activities at Lawson, while local officials and industry stakeholders assess the project’s long-term economic and clean energy potential for Saskatchewan.
