New Denso covercoat targets corrosion on minimally prepped surfaces

Denso, a company specializing in corrosion prevention and sealing technologies, has introduced a new multi-layer covercoat system designed to protect mining infrastructure exposed to harsh environmental conditions, including ultraviolet radiation, standing water and corrosive industrial environments.

The company said the system is engineered for use on minimally prepared surfaces, reducing the need for expensive abrasive blasting procedures commonly required in industrial corrosion protection projects. According to Denso, the coating system’s adhesion properties allow it to be applied effectively on irregular shapes and complex steel structures frequently found at mining operations, including column bases and structural supports.

Denso said the covercoat system is designed to provide long-term durability with limited maintenance requirements. “Once applied, Denso covercoat forms a seamless, durable barrier that delivers over 20 years of corrosion resistance with virtually no maintenance,” the company said in a statement. The system is intended to help mining operators reduce maintenance costs while extending the lifespan of critical infrastructure in demanding operating environments.

The corrosion protection solution consists of six integrated components, including the company’s “Hi-Tack” primer, profiling mastic, petrolatum tape, polyester scrim, a two-part basecoat and an acrylic topcoat. Each layer is designed to perform a specific role, ranging from surface preparation and profile smoothing to weatherproofing and long-term sealing, ultimately creating a uniform protective barrier.

Denso pointed to the successful use of the system at South Africa’s Koeberg Nuclear Power Station as evidence of its durability in highly corrosive coastal conditions. The launch comes as mining and industrial operators increasingly seek lower-maintenance infrastructure protection technologies to reduce operational downtime and improve long-term asset reliability.
